Introducing the West Midlands Cyber Hub
After years of ambition, collaboration, and persistence, we are proud to announce the #WMCyberHub, based at Millennium Point, Birmingham is opened in November 24th. Funded by Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, via Innovate UK, and led by Cyber Tzar and supported by Aston University, TechWM, the Innovation Alliance for the West Midlands, The Cyber Resilience Centre for West Midlands, and Midlands Cyber. The Hub is our region’s new centre for cyber innovation, community, investment, education, and enterprise.
02
What we’re here to do!
Community coherence: Bringing together students, SMEs, enterprises, universities, public sector to build something exciting, welcoming, future-focussed.
Drive investment: We plan to close the funding and visibility gap in our region. Birmingham’s been underserved; now we want that to change. Regional reach: This is a hub-and-spoke model. Birmingham will be our core, but the vision includes spokes in Wolverhampton, Coventry, Worcester and more.
03
Why this matters
This isn’t just about building a facility. Expect drop-in spaces, training offers, conversations, and collaboration. It’s about creating something that reflects who we are:
· A region of trade, innovation, diversity
· Young, dynamic, and increasingly influential in tech and cyber
· A place where neurodiversity, inclusion, and often-overlooked voices in cyber are celebrated, supported, and centred
04
What’s next
As we come to the end of our initial phase we are preparing for our phase 2: a fully independent WM Cyber Hub! Continuing our focus on Neurodiversity and Women in Cyber, our next phase is:
1. WM Cyber Hub as a Not for Profit based on the needs of the WMs Cyber community alone. By the community, for the community.
2. An angel and investor group to facilitate funding at the low end.
3. A low end "onboarding" programme to bring new, exciting entrepreneurs into business.
4. A lifecycle support programme for our Cyber SMEs.
5. More opportunities for young people to access the hub and learn about a career in Cyber.
